Those that are familiar with RIGID are no doubt also familiar with the Dually, which like several of RIGID’s other product lines has been around for nearly a decade. The D-Series LED pod is a RIGID original, and the Dually has proven to be a great solution whenever compact, powerful lighting was required. Whether mounted on the A-pillar of a Jeep, the rear of a pickup, or front and center on a motorcycle or a UTV, off-road enthusiasts have been using the Dually in various on- and off-road applications for many years. Rigid had recently released a new version of the Dually that makes the fixture more versatile than ever before and also addresses one of the shortcomings of the traditional Dually: though great for projecting plenty of forward-facing light, the Dually’s forward focus left the peripheral largely in the dark thanks to the fairly focused, narrow beam with most optic options. The Dually Side Shooter, or D-SS for short, offers a much broader beam with up to 120-degrees of horizontal lighting coverage, which is perfect for lighting up switchbacks, twisty mountain trails, or any other situation where lighting up the sides is as important as seeing what’s up ahead.
Though it was initially developed for the powersports and motorcycle markets, the D-SS LED Light has proven extremely popular among truck and Jeep enthusiasts alike thanks to it’s broad light beam and wide area of coverage. But in addition to the forward-facing LEDs that offer between 1568 and 3096 lumens depending on the optics chosen, the D-SS pod has LEDs positioned on the sides of the light that are aimed to illuminate a wider area.
Motorcyclists in particular understand the importance of keeping tabs on the periphery, whether it’s on the street or on the trail. Until the release of the D-SS light, truck and Jeep enthusiasts often utilized four D-Series lights and aimed two of them to the side in order to gain adequate light coverage for switchbacks, twisty roads, or simply adding the lighting necessary to keep tabs on the shoulders of the road. The D-SS offers the very similar lighting coverage to two forward-facing and two side-facing D-Series lights, but with half the space. The new D-SS pods are available with RIGID’s advanced spot, flood, or driving optics, which expands their versatility even further.
In single applications, a pair of side-shooting LEDs are positioned on each side of the light, while dual applications have three side-shooting LEDs positioned on one side of each light in mirror image. In the single & pair applications, the D-SS offers 120-degrees of horizontal beam coverage.
